What’s in a name?

The city of Mt. Healthy was first settled as a village in 1817 and was originally named Mt. Pleasant. In 1850, a devastating cholera epidemic struck the area and pure water on “the mount” made the village a safe haven from the dreadful disease. After the crises ended, the city was renamed “Mt. Healthy.”

Just as the springs in Mt. Healthy offered pure water to all in need, the First Baptist Church of Mt. Healthy offers a pure hope found only in Jesus Christ, the Living Water. The members of our mount at the corner of Compton and Daly serve as examples to the world around us of God’s grace, offered through His free gift of eternal life. Join us as we quench our thirst for eternal life by drinking the Living Water!

Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
